If you're a new reader to Dvorak, the sheer volume of backstory can be daunting. That's why this page is here: to give you concise summaries of each book and drop down menus to find each chapter. Links to the print version of each book are here as well; the online versions will always be free to read.
Dvorak Classic is the first book in the Dvorak series. Since it exists out of the Dealey Five continuity, it is designated "Book 0." This story introduces Carissa, Mac, QWERTY, and Dvorak.
Carissa Lopez is a regular girl living in New York City. On a cold January morning, weird things start happening that nobody else can see. Carissa's best friend, Isabel, doesn't believe her reason for being late to school -- a man collapsed in the cafe and died -- but a student named Mac believes her. As days pass, more and more weird things start happening that nobody else sees.
Mac, Carissa, and Isabel bond together to discover why these things are happening and find out that their world is scheduled to collide with another, and the world will reassemble at random. Carissa has been chosen to save her world by an interdimensional organization named QWERTY. When Carissa's entire neighborhood disappears, she has to stay with Mac in Coney Island.
Carissa discovers if she finds a man named Dvorak, he will help keep her world as it is. When Dvorak is found, however, they discover he is not who they thought he is. He begins to destroy Carissa's world, starting with Mac, who is now revealed as an illegal immigrant. Carissa finds a rouge member of QWERTY named Ariana and seeks her guidance. Ariana gets Carissa to a limbo between the two worlds, where she rewrites her world and includes Mac in it. As Dvorak raises one last attack on her, Isabel steps in to deflect him, sacrificing herself to do so.
In the end, Mac and Carissa resume their studies, and Isabel becomes a member of QWERTY.
The Dealey Five is book 1 of the Dvorak series. This book follows five kids, all from the same world that disappeared in Carissa's book. They are all new members of QWERTY, but they have to make it back to headquarters first!
He can't remember his first name, just Matsumoto -- his last name. He wakes up in a white room, with a man telling him that his world has been eliminated. He is one of the only survivors, and he must round up the rest of them, while simultaneously trying to remember who he is. Matsumoto bands together with the others from his world, which disappeared when it collided into Carissa Lopez's in Dvorak Classic. His first friend is a Hispanic girl only named Amiga.
Upon meeting one of the kids in Carissa's New York City -- a mixed kid named Squirrel who has a boombox -- Matsumoto then has to help Squirrel defend himself against mysterious men in black, all who want his boombox. The men in black are from New York City's faction of the KGB Russian mafia, and their leader, Dimitri, wants Squirrel's boombox. Unbeknowst to everybody, Dimitri was being manipulated by Dvorak, who promised that the world would be rewritten in Dimitri's favor if he got his hands on a boombox that wasn't even supposed to exist. Dimitri's allies included Milaya, a young athletic Russian girl, and Didi, the world's best Chinese coder, both from the Soviet block in Matsumoto's world.
As the adventures continued, the kids figured out who they were. Amiga is really Rosa Elena Meira Querida, Mexican pop star and actress who cracked one Christmas night and supposedly blew a cathedral in the capital up. Squirrel is Jason Jones, a kid with no past, no present, and no answers save for a new family in the Dealey Five. Matsumoto, first name Tamasine, was a regular kid in Tokyo caught up in a bomb raid that killed his family. As Rifka Ivanovna Moscavitz, Milaya stood up to Russian officials who kept ethnic Armenians in internment camps. And little brother Didi, real name Xiao Jian Liang (Jen for short), faced immense pressure from his family after his older brother died. Used by Dimitri to recode the world, Jen realized his mistakes and fixed everything at the last second (but not before frying Jason's boombox in the process).
The Dealey Five are now new members of QWERTY -- learning how to save worlds, organize collisions, and keep Dvorak at bay. Dvorak's true nature is revealed as the substitute guardian; this appears to be only the first run-in our heroes have with him...
Digital Merge is book 2 in the Dvorak series (although they are all standalone). This book covers the Dealey Five's first mission, in a world much like their own. However, when Dvorak sticks his head in, nothing goes according to plan!
To be added...
The White Rose of Fiorazzurro is book 3 in the Dvorak Series, and will begin serialization August 26, 2014.
